Life Is A Soap Opera: Catch Victoria Rowell’s The Rich And The Ruthless!
Fans who miss Victoria Rowell on The Young and the Restless can check out her streaming soap opera that’s getting ready for a second season — The Rich and the Ruthless. The show is based on the novel the actress/authored penned in 2013 titled The Young and the Ruthless.
The Rich and the Ruthless (RR) tells the story of people in the soap opera world, primarily ingenue Calysta Jefferies (Alesha Renee) and producer Augustus Barringer (Richard Brooks, Being Mary Jane), who cast Jeffries as Ruby Stargazer.
In addition to telling the stories of Calysta and Augustus, R&R also charts the paths of other characters including Alison Fairchild Roberts (Chrystale Wilson), an older soap diva, and Randall Roberts (Hunter Bodine), Alison’s husband and producer, who is hoping to bed Calysta! There’s also sexy Emmy Abernathy (Elizabeth J. Carlisle), who has been feuding with Alison for over a decade.
On the first six episodes R&R, viewers see Calysta’s journey as she finds the fame and love she’s been searching for her whole life as Augustus serves as her mentor and friend.
Meanwhile, Alison recalls her own days on the casting couch and how that impacted her career. Rowell also appears in the series as Kitty Barringer. Brenda Epperson (ex-Ashley, Y&R) portrays Edith Norman. R&R is more than a backstage look at a sudsy drama — the show is filled with character-driven stories and includes snappy comedic one-liners!
Rowell is known to soap fans for her Emmy-nominated run as Drucilla Barber Winters on Y&R. Dru made the scene in 1990 as Mamie’s (Veronica Redd) runaway niece, eventually finding fulfillment as a model, wife to Neil (Kristoff St. John) and mother to Lily (Christel Khalil).
In 2007, Dru was presumed dead after falling off a cliff while struggling with Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (then Michelle Stafford, now Gina Tognoni) over a cell phone.
